Urine Chloride
Understanding Urine Chloride
What is Urine Chloride?
This test measures the amount of chloride in the urine. It is an electrolyte that helps to control the amount of fluids and maintains the pH of the body. This test is recommended in case of symptoms such as prolonged vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, seizures, confusion, constricted breathing.
Normal range of chloride in urine is 20 to 40 mmol/L
High levels of chloride indicate malfuntion of the adrenal glands, inflammation of the kidneys, alkalosis, potassium depletion or polyuria and excessive salt intake, while low levels of chloride may be due to heart failure, lung failure and addison's disease, cushing syndrome, decreased salt intake and excessive body fluid loss.
This test is also advised as a part of routine investigation in case of heart, kidney, liver or hypertension patients.
