Give Clodax L Tablet either with or without food but it is best to give it with food if it upsets your child’s stomach. It is generally given three times a day. Stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor as these depend on the severity of the infection, its type, and your child’s body weight and age. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking the medicine, repeat the dose when your child feels better. However, do not double the dose if it is the time for the next dose.

Clodax L Tablet can cause some minor and temporary side effects such as nausea, vomiting, headache, abdominal pain, and mild skin rash. These side effects should ideally subside on their own. But, in case these side effects persist or become bothersome for your child, report to the doctor without a delay.

Tell your child’s doctor if your child has had any previous episodes of allergy, heart problems, blood disorders, birth defects, airway obstruction, lung anomaly, gastrointestinal problem, skin disorder, and kidney malfunction. Clodax L Tablet is a medicine that effectively treats a wide range of bacterial infections, especially the ones which are suspected to be caused due to resistant bacteria. These infections may include otitis media (ear infection), rhinosinusitis (sinus infection), tonsillitis (infection of tonsils), dental abscess (tooth infection), pneumonia (lung infection), cellulitis (skin infection), and urinary tract infections. The presence of probiotics reduces the chance of side effects like stomach upset or diarrhea associated with prolonged intake of antibiotics.

Usually, children start to feel better within 2-3 days of regular dosing. Make sure to finish the recommended course of the medicine as stopping the medicine abruptly may lead to ineffective treatment or may even worsen your child’s condition.

How Clodax L Tablet works

Clodax L Tablet is a combination of three medicines: Amoxycillin, Cloxacillin, and Lactobacillus. Amoxycillin and Cloxacillin are antibiotics that work by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering that is essential for the survival of bacteria in the human body. Together, they eradicate your infection effectively. Lactobacillus is a live microorganism that restores the balance of good bacteria in the intestine that may get upset with antibiotic use or due to intestinal infections.

Quick tips

Complete the entire course of antibiotics without stopping the medicine in between. Doing so may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
Conditions like the common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions.
Give Clodax L Tablet to your child only for their current infection. Avoid storing the medicine for future use as it is impossible to judge whether the same medicine would work for any future illnesses.
Stop this medicine and immediately report to your child’s doctor in case your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulties while taking this medicine.

Can I give Clodax L Tablet to my child repeatedly for a long time?

Giving your child Clodax L Tablet for a long-term can cause fungal infection (oral thrush) in the mouth and severe gastrointestinal infections (superinfections). Therefore, do not alter the dose and duration on your own and give Clodax L Tablet to your child exactly as prescribed. Additionally, irregular treatment, repeated use, and misuse of Clodax L Tablet can make the bacteria resistant.

Are there any possible serious side effects of Clodax L Tablet?

Although rare, Clodax L Tablet may cause some serious side effects such as persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergy, diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. Always consult your child’s doctor for help in such a situation.

Can other medicines be given at the same time as Clodax L Tablet?

Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Clodax L Tablet?

Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they fully recover from the illness. Post recovery from illness, the child can take the vaccine after consulting the doctor.

The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?

In conditions like the common cold, the mucus changes its color and thickens up with time, but this does not mean that your child needs antibiotics. Common cold symptoms often last for 7-10 days. In case they fail to clear up within this duration, reach out to your child’s doctor for guidance.

Is Clodax L Tablet safe for children suffering from infectious mononucleosis?

No, do not give this medicine to your child in this case as a high percentage of children with infectious mononucleosis develop a skin rash (erythematous rash) while taking Clodax L Tablet.

Is it safe to give Clodax L Tablet to children suffering from jaundice?

It is advised not to give Clodax L Tablet to children if they have jaundice. The reason being, Clodax L Tablet contains an active ingredient called cloxacillin which can aggravate the symptoms of jaundice in your child.
