Clopan Cream is meant for external use and is to be used only as advised by your doctor. Wash and dry the affected area before applying a thin layer of the medicine. Avoid any contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth. Rinse it off with plenty of water if you accidentally get it in these areas. Avoid covering the treated area with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor.

Using the medicine may cause skin thinning, burning sensation, irritation, redness, and swelling at the site of application. These are temporary and usually resolve with time. However, if they persist or worsen, let your doctor know. Clopan Cream is not recommended to be used in children. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctors before using this medicine.

Clopan Cream is effective in treating allergic skin conditions with inflammation and itching such as eczema and dermatitis. It works by reducing the actions of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation of the skin. In treating eczema and dermatitis, it reduces the redness, rash, pain, or itchiness caused by your skin’s reaction to an irritant. It thus improves your self-esteem and confidence as your appearance changes.

Can Clopan Cream be used for a long time?

No, Clopan Cream should not be used for a long time. The doctor generally prescribes it for 2 consecutive weeks only. However, the treatment can be longer for chronic (long-term) inflammatory conditions. Consult your physician before using this medication.

Does Clopan Cream cause severe skin reactions?

Severe skin reactions are quite rare with Clopan Cream. Clopan Cream is an anti-inflammatory drug which is used to treat skin diseases, skin reactions and eczemas. However, skin reactions can occur in a person who is hypersensitive to Clopan Cream. It is important to leave the affected area open after applying Clopan Cream as using occlusive dressings (air- and water-tight dressing) can lead to skin reactions. The medicine may not itself cause a reaction but the added excipients with the medications can lead to a reaction in some cases. Inform your doctor immediately in case you encounter any skin reactions.

Can Clopan Cream be used on the face?

No, Clopan Cream should not be used on the face. In addition to this, Clopan Cream should also not be used on the axillae (armpits), groin, and if there is atrophy (wasting away of tissues) at the treatment site. In certain circumstances, it can be exceptionally considered to be used by doctors. It should be used only after consultation with your physician and if possible, the application on the face should be limited to a maximum of 5 days.

Can Clopan Cream be applied to children?

Clopan Cream is not recommended for use in children less than 1 year of age. It is also not recommended for use in older children and adolescents as the side effects are more common in them. In the pediatric population, there is an increased risk of suppression of the immune system which may make the child prone to other diseases and atrophic changes, hence it is not recommended. Still, in some rare cases, the doctor may recommend this medicine, but the treatment is usually limited to 5 days and the therapy is reviewed weekly.

Can we use Clopan Cream in infections?

Clopan Cream is not an antimicrobial or antifungal agent. It is a steroid medication. It should not be used in infections as being a corticosteroid, it suppresses the immune system and increases the risk of infections. Bacterial infections are prone to worsen if the infection is covered with a dressing after using Clopan Cream. In case the inflammatory lesions get infected or there is any spread of infection, consult your doctor immediately. The doctor will withdraw the use of Clopan Cream and provide appropriate antimicrobial therapy.

Can I stop taking Clopan Cream when my symptoms are relieved?

No, do not stop taking Clopan Cream and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Your symptoms may improve before your treatment is complete. Stopping Clopan Cream before your treatment is completed can bring back your symptoms.
