How Magcaine Injection works
Magcaine Injection is a combination of five medicines: Lidocaine, Adrenaline, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Metabisulphite and Methylparaben. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic which works by blocking pain signals from the nerves to brain which decreases the pain sensation. Adrenaline is a vasoconstrictor which narrows the blood vessels to prolong the action of Lidocaine. This also controls bleeding during the procedure and minimizes side effects of Lidocaine. Sodium Chloride is a purified salt solution which helps prevent edema (swelling) and discomfort on injection. Sodium Metabisulphite and Methylparaben are preservatives.
Quick tips
- Magcaine Injection is given to numb the surgical area to help reduce pain or discomfort during minor surgical procedures.
- It is given as an injection under the supervision of a doctor.
- Avoid eating or chewing within 1 hour after Magcaine Injection is given to numb your mouth or throat. This is because you may accidentally bite the inside of your mouth if you are still numb.
