How Melgain Lotion works
Melgain Lotion is a repigmenting agent. It works by causing migration of skin cells (melanocytes) from the area of skin surrounding the vitiligo patch. This in turn causes the production of melanin (skin darkening pigment) and restores the skin color.

Frequently asked questions
Use Melgain Lotion exactly as directed by your doctor. Read the instructions carefully before using. Clean and dry the affected area thoroughly and then apply the lotion as a very thin film. For best results, apply it about 2 hours before retiring at night. Do not touch the treated patches for about an hour. Next morning, expose the patches to bright sunlight for 10-15 minutes. If it is not possible to expose to sunlight, you can use ultraviolet lamps.
Melgain Lotion increases the growth of cells that make pigment (melanocytes). It increases melanocytes in the area of patches (hypopigmented area). It also helps the melanocytes to migrate to the affected area, thus restoring skin complexion.
Melgain Lotion is quite safe if used as prescribed. No side effects or contraindications have been reported so far. If you experience any side effects after applying the lotion, consult your doctor immediately.
The duration of treatment depends on the response to treatment. The response is faster in children or if used in recently developed patches. Normally, re-pigmentation can be seen on the borders or inside the white patch (as dots of pigment) in 3 to 6 months depending on the age of the white patch. In the majority of patients, full re-pigmentation may take a year.
There is still no remedy which cures vitiligo 100%. Sometimes the patches may disappear on their own. But generally, the patches may get repigmented, but never get cured completely.
Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease of the skin that causes white patches on the skin due to loss of normal skin pigment called melanin. It occurs when the cells that give your skin its color are destroyed. These patches can also affect the eyes, mouth and nose. It runs in families and usually starts before the age of 40 years.
