Mycin Eye Drop is a combination of two antibiotics: Polymyxin B and Chloramphenicol. These antibiotics work by killing the bacteria or stopping their growth in the eye. Together, they treat your eye infection effectively.
Quick tips
- Your doctor has prescribed Mycin Eye Drop to cure your eye infection and improve your symptoms.
- Use it twice a day (in the morning and the evening). If your symptoms are particularly severe, your doctor may suggest you use them up to four times a day.
- To avoid contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your eye or any other surface. If it does, squeeze out two or three drops straightaway onto some tissue and rinse the tip with saltwater.
- Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute, immediately after instilling the medication. This will prevent the medication from draining out.
- Do not wear contact lenses until your infection clears up.
- Eye infections can cause your eyes to become more sensitive to sunlight than usual. Wearing sunglasses may help to prevent this.
- Along with using Mycin Eye Drop, give a warm compress to your eyes to get relief from itching and burning sensation.
- Take care to avoid spreading the infection from one eye to the other, and to other members of your family. Washing your hands regularly (particularly after touching your eyes) and not sharing towels or pillows will help to prevent the infection from spreading.
