Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet belongs to a group of medicine called anti-thyroid agents. It is used in the treatment of hyperthyroidism. It reduces the amount of thyroid hormones produced by the thyroid gland.

No, you should not stop taking Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet even if you start feeling better. You may have to take it for several months depending on your investigations. The duration of the treatment will continue till the thyroid hormone levels return to normal. This duration may vary from six months to 18 months. Your doctor will decide when the treatment should be stopped.
You may start feeling better within 1-3 weeks of starting Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet. However, it usually takes 4-8 weeks to see the full benefits of the treatment.
Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet may cause hair loss but not in everyone. It has been seen that on discontinuing Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet or replacing Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet with another medicine, there is improvement, and hair loss reverses.
You should not take Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet if you have serious liver disorder or serious blood disorder. You should also avoid taking this medicine if you are pregnant or are allergic to Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet or any of the ingredients present in it Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet.
Very rarely, Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet interferes with the bone marrow and causes a drastic drop in white blood cells. These white blood cells are a part of the body's defense against bacterial infections, such as sore throats. So, a sore throat can sometimes be the first clue that Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet is affecting the bone marrow. Your sister should contact her doctor and get a blood test. If a blood test shows her white blood cell count to be normal, then she can continue Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet. If not, she should stop the treatment after consulting the doctor.
The effectiveness and side effects of Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet in children are more or less the same as in adults. Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet should not be used in children less than 2 years of age.
If you have started taking Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet, the dose of warfarin may need adjustment. You should consult your doctor and get your bleeding time checked so that the dose can be adjusted according to the results of the investigations.
Yes, Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet may cause liver problems, though not in everyone. A very common side effect of Neo-Mercazole 5 Tablet can be the yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice).
