Product introduction

Nipress 50mg Injection is given as a drip into the vein under the supervision of a doctor. Your doctor is the right person to decide the dose and duration, hence do not try to self-administered the injection at home. Regular monitoring of blood pressure is required while on treatment. 

Decreased blood pressure (hypotension) may occur as a side effect of this medicine. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding. It is also advisable to avoid medication like sildenafil or tadalafil while on treatment as it may cause a sudden lowering of blood pressure.

How Nipress Injection works

Nipress 50mg Injection is a vasodilator. It works by relaxing the muscles in your blood vessels to help them widen and results in the lowering of blood pressure.

Quick tips

  • Nipress 50mg Injection is given as a drip (intravenous infusion) by your doctor or nurse.
  • If there is no considerable improvement in blood pressure within 10 minutes, stop the infusion immediately.
  • It may cause sudden lowering of blood pressure. Hence, regular monitoring of blood pressure is required during treatment.
  • It may cause headaches which usually go away after a few days of continued treatment. Inform your doctor if it persists.
  • Stop taking medications (prescribed for erectile dysfunction) like sildenafil or tadalafil while on treatment with Nipress 50mg Injection as it may cause low blood pressure.
  • You have been prescribed Nipress 50mg Injection for the prevention and treatment of heart-related chest pain (angina).
  • Eat healthy (low-fat, high-fiber, low-sodium diet), quit smoking, increase your physical activity, watch your weight and reduce stress.
  • Nipress 50mg Injection may cause dizziness or sleepiness. Do not drive or do anything that requires concentration until you know how it affects you.
  • Do not consume alcohol while taking Nipress 50mg Injection as it may cause increased dizziness.
  • It may cause headaches which usually go away after a few days of continued treatment. Inform your doctor if it persists.
  • You may develop tolerance to Nipress 50mg Injection with time, meaning that the same dose may be less effective next time. Follow the prescribed dosing schedule to avoid this.
  • Stop taking medications (prescribed for erectile dysfunction) like sildenafil or tadalafil while on treatment with Nipress 50mg Injection as it may cause low blood pressure.

Nipress 50mg Injection belongs to a class of medicines known as vasodilators. It is used to decrease the blood pressure in emergency conditions where the blood pressure is extremely high (hypertensive crisis). It is also used to maintain low blood pressure during surgical procedures in a hospital setting.
Nipress 50mg Injection is wrapped in aluminum foil to protect it from light. This is because Nipress 50mg Injection is very sensitive to light. The solution will degrade every 4 hours if left unprotected. On the contrary, covering it with aluminum foil makes it stable for around 24 hours.
Nipress 50mg Injection widens the blood vessels (arteries and veins) which provides a better and smooth path for the blood to flow. This reduces the pressure on the walls which results in effective and significant decrease in the blood pressure.
Nipress 50mg Injection may cause side effects like low blood pressure and cyanide poisoning. Additionally, you may also notice abdominal pain, sweating, dizziness, headache, muscle twitching and nausea. However, these are usually not bothersome but if any of these side effects worry you or persist for a longer duration of time, please consult your doctor. Your doctor will suggest ways to manage or prevent these side effects.
Nipress 50mg Injection is extremely sensitive to light. If left open, its chemical composition changes rapidly and the color may change from brown to blue or green. If left unprotected, 20% of the solution will deteriorate every 4 hours even in glass bottles. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent exposure of Nipress 50mg Injection to any kind of light, especially fluorescent light.
