Give NP Flox Syrup to your child orally, preferably at a fixed time, either before or after meals. In case your child develops a stomach upset, prefer giving it with meals. The dose and duration depend upon the type and severity of the infection, your child’s age, and body weight, so stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of intake, repeat the same dose but do not double dose if it's time for the next dose.

In some cases, minor and temporary side effects may be experienced after the intake of this medicine. These include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, rash, and headache. Usually, these effects subside once your child’s body adapts to the medicine. However, in case of prolonged or bothersome events, it would be best to consult your child’s doctor without any delay.

NP Flox Syrup is an antibiotic. It interferes with the genetic material of bacteria by implanting defects in its DNA. These defects hamper the multiplication of the bacteria and affect its survival as well. Thus, it kills the infection-causing bacteria from growing further and prevents the infection from spreading without making them resistant to further treatment.

Do not panic. You can give the medicine as soon as you remember unless your child’s doctor has advised a specific regime for your child. In case of any confusion, do consult your doctor, do not double the dose to catch up.
Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking NP Flox Syrup as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.
Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect.
Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions.
Discontinue NP Flox Syrup and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing.
Only give NP Flox Syrup to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses.

What if I give too much of NP Flox Syrup by mistake?

An extra dose of NP Flox Syrup is unlikely to harm. However, if you think you have given too much to your child, immediately speak to a doctor. Overdose may cause unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, unconsciousness, and palpitations (irregularities of heartbeat). Rush to your child’s doctor on an immediate basis if you notice any of these symptoms.

What should I do if my child shows no improvement even after taking NP Flox Syrup for the prescribed duration?

Ineffective treatment with NP Flox Syrup could mean that the medicine is not able to act against the infection-causing bacteria. In such a case, visit your child’s doctor who may prescribe some other antibiotic that would be more specific in action. Not all medicines are given by oral route, some may have to be given by IV route (intravenous injection) in the hospital.

Can other medicines be given at the same time as NP Flox Syrup?

NP Flox Syrup can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting NP Flox Syrup. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.

Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with NP Flox Syrup?

Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.

What should I tell the doctor before giving NP Flox Syrup to my child?

Inform the doctor if your child is suffering from a heart disease, genetic disorders involving blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergy from sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. This is because there is a possibility that NP Flox Syrup may aggravate these conditions and result in complications.
