Your child’s medicine at a glance

Give Ntd Suspension to your child orally, preferably at a fixed time, either before or after food. In case your child develops a stomach upset, prefer giving it with food. The usually prescribed frequency is twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of intake, repeat the same dose but never double up the dose if it is time for the next dose. The dose and duration depend upon the type and severity of the infection, your child’s age, and body weight, so stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor.

Some children may develop minor and temporary side effects after taking this medicine. These include nausea, vomiting, metallic taste, headache, loss of appetite, abdominal cramps, and mild skin rash. These side effects usually go away once your child’s body adapts to the medicine. However, in case they persist for long or start bothering your child, you must consult your child’s doctor without any delay.

Your child’s doctor must be aware if your child has ever had any previous episode of allergy, heart problem, liver impairment, and kidney malfunction. This will guide the doctor in planning your child’s overall treatment.

It is most likely that your child’s infection will start showing improvement within 3 to 5 days of the regular dosing. Dysentery or amoebic dysentery is a parasitic infection of the intestines that occurs mostly due to intake of contaminated food or water. The symptoms include loose stools (diarrhea), stomach cramps and stomach pain. Ntd Suspension helps to treat this infection by killing the infection causing parasites. It relieves these symptoms and also helps you to stay well by preventing them from coming back. You need to take this medicine regularly to get the most out of it and you should drink plenty of fluids while taking it to make sure you stay hydrated.

Ntd Suspension does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. How Ntd Suspension works

Ntd Suspension is an antibiotic, having metronidazole and norfloxacin as its active ingredients. Your child has been prescribed Ntd Suspension for the treatment of bacterial and parasitic infections.
If your child develops diarrhea as a side effect, encourage them to drink plenty of water.
Ntd Suspension may cause an altered taste. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help.
Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid to your child within 2 hours of taking Ntd Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.
Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions.
Your child must complete the entire course of Ntd Suspension. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
Discontinue Ntd Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing.
Never save the medicine for future illnesses since its effectiveness in future infections cannot be guaranteed.

My child is having a genetic deficiency of the G6PD enzyme. Is it safe to give Ntd Suspension?

It is advised that you get your child’s G6PD deficiency evaluated before starting the course of treatment. Avoid giving Ntd Suspension as deficiency of G6PD enzymes can lead to breaking of blood cells resulting in severe anemia.

Can Ntd Suspension be given along with cough and cold medicines?

No, do not give Ntd Suspension with cough and cold medicines. Ntd Suspension can interact with alcohol-containing medicines like cough syrups and cause disulfiram reaction, leading to side effects such as nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, etc.

What if I give excess Ntd Suspension by mistake?

An extra dose of Ntd Suspension is unlikely to cause any harm. But, you must still be vigilant because overdose increases the risk of unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat. Rush to your child’s doctor on an immediate basis if you notice any of these symptoms. If you think you have given too much Ntd Suspension to your child, immediately speak to a doctor.

What should I do if my child shows no improvement even after taking Ntd Suspension for the prescribed duration?

Speak to your child’s doctor if your child does not show any improvement even after completing the dose. It could mean that the medicine is not able to act against the infection-causing bacteria. Your child’s doctor may change Ntd Suspension and prescribe some other antibiotic which is known to have a stronger impact on the infection-causing bacteria.

Can other medicines be given at the same time as Ntd Suspension?

Ntd Suspension can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Ntd Suspension. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.

Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Ntd Suspension?

Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.

What should I tell the doctor before giving Ntd Suspension to my child?

Inform the doctor if your child is suffering from heart disease, genetic disorders involving blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergy from sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. This is because there is a possibility that Ntd Suspension may aggravate these conditions and result in complications.

Wife had abortion for 24 weeks baby for Spina Bifida and then 12 weeks miscarriage. Later we were recommended for torch test in Nov 2015,toxo igg and igm were positive. She was asked to take spiramycin . She took the course for 6 months and levels are reduced from 9 to 4.Now she is 3 months pregnant. one doctor suggested to continue till delivery another doctor asked to stop the spiramycin. we are in dailama should we use this or not? You had asked me to remind. Please let me know should we use or not. What are the side effects? We had done NT scan recently , it was normal. Prior to pregnancy both of us gone karyotype n homositene and mutation tests. All tests are normal. Are there any chances for NTd this time.should we go for any other scan or tests before anamolies tests?

She can continue spiramycin if IgM levels are high. The next scan to rule out NTD will be the level 2 scan at 18 weeks. before that you can get a double marker or triple marker test done to rule out the risk of having NTD in the baby.
