Product introduction
PTU Tablet may be used alone or in combination with other medicines. It can be taken with or without food. It should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor will decide the dose and how often you should take them. You should take this medicine regularly to get the most benefit from it. Do not stop taking the medicine even if you feel better unless the doctor tells you so.
Taking this medicine may cause some common side effects such as skin rash, hair loss, headache, pain (joint, nerve, or muscle pain), nausea, and paresthesia (tingling or pricking sensation). Let your doctor know if any of these side effects do not go away with time or get worse.
Before using this medicine, inform your doctor if you have any problems with your liver or kidneys. You should also tell your doctor all the other medications you are taking. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctors before using the medicine.

How to use PTU Tablet
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. PTU Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
How PTU Tablet works
PTU Tablet is an anti-thyroid medication. It works by reducing the amount of thyroid hormones produced by the thyroid gland.
Quick tips
- PTU Tablet is used for the treatment of hyperthyroidism.
- You may have to stop taking it for a while if you are also taking radio-iodine as a treatment for your overactive thyroid.Â
- It may affect the level of blood cells in your blood. Inform your doctor if you experience symptoms such as unexplained bruising or bleeding, sore throat, mouth ulcers, fever, or general illness.
- Stop taking PTU Tablet and Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms of liver damage such as abdominal pain, loss of appetite, darkened urine or yellowing of the eyes or skin.
- Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding.

Pregnancy

PTU Tablet is unsafe to use during pregnancy as there is definite evidence of risk to the developing baby. However, the doctor may rarely prescribe it in some life-threatening situations if the benefits are more than the potential risks. Please consult your doctor.

Breast feeding
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
PTU Tablet is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.

Driving
CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR
It is not known whether PTU Tablet alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react.

Kidney
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
PTU Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of PTU Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.

Liver
