Your child’s medicine at a glance

Give Soncef O Syrup to your child orally, preferably at a fixed time, either before or after meals. In case your child develops a stomach upset, prefer giving it with meals. The dose and duration depend upon the type and severity of the infection, your child’s age, and body weight, so stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of intake, repeat the same dose but do not double dose if it's time for the next dose.

Do not give this medicine to your child in case of cold and flu symptoms. Such symptoms are almost always a result of viral infections, and antibiotics are ineffective in killing viruses. Antibiotics are given in cough and flu symptoms only when the doctor detects any underlying secondary bacterial infection.

This medicine may have some minor and temporary side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, and allergy. These side effects will disappear once your child’s body adapts to the medicine. However, if they persist or become bothersome for your child, report to the doctor without any delay.

Share your child’s complete medical history with your child’s doctor. Make sure the doctor knows if your child has or had any previous episode of allergy, heart problem, a blood disorder, birth defects, airway obstruction, lung anomaly, gastrointestinal problem, skin disorder, liver impairment, and kidney malfunction. This information is critical for dose alterations and for planning your child’s overall treatment.

Uses of Soncef O Syrup in children

Benefits of Soncef O Syrup for your child

Typhoid fever
Typhoid fever spreads through the intake of contaminated food and water. Children who have typhoid and do not require hospital admission can be well managed with Soncef O Syrup at home because of its excellent activity against organisms that cause typhoid fever.
Treatment of Bacterial infections
Soncef O Syrup is a combination of two different antibiotics that work together, in different ways, to treat various bacterial infections. Cefixime works by stopping the growth of bacteria and kills them. Ofloxacin prevents multiplication and repair of infection causing bacteria and prevents further spread of the infection.

This combination medicine can be used to treat many different bacterial infections such as ear, sinus, throat, lung, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues. It usually makes you feel better within a few days, but you should continue taking it as prescribed even when you feel better to make sure that all bacteria are killed and do not become resistant.

Side effects of Soncef O Syrup in children

Soncef O Syrup does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. How Soncef O Syrup works

Soncef O Syrup contains two antibiotics. Cefixime works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) while ofloxacin directly interacts with the genetic material of bacteria. As a consequence, the infection-causing bacteria stop growing further and the spread of the infection is successfully arrested.

  • Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Soncef O Syrup as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.

Frequently asked questions

An extra dose of Soncef O Syrup is unlikely to do harm. However, you must still be vigilant because overdoses may cause unwanted side effects and may even worsen your child’s condition. If you think you have given too much of Soncef O Syrup to your child, speak to a doctor immediately.
Some serious side effects of this medicine include persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergy, diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. Always consult your child’s doctor for help in such a situation.
Soncef O Syrup can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Soncef O Syrup. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.
Children often have a sensitive stomach and develop a stomach upset while taking antibiotics. When antibiotics are given, the medicine may kill off the good bacteria along with the bad ones, increasing the risk of developing other infections. In case your child is having diarrhea while on Soncef O Syrup, do not stop the medicine course. Instead, call your child’s doctor to ask about the next steps. In some cases, the doctor may alter the dose.
Yes, the infection-causing bacteria can become resistant to Soncef O Syrup because of irregular dosing, unrequired repeated use, and misuse of Soncef O Syrup can lead to resistance. Resistant bacteria are no longer killed by the antibiotics and may lead to reinfection.
Inform the doctor if your child is suffering from heart disease, genetic disorders involving blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergy from sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. This is because there is a possibility that Soncef O Syrup may aggravate these conditions and result in complications.
