Product introduction

Topspas Injection is given by your doctor or nurse. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. Let your healthcare team know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect, or be affected by this medicine.

The most common side effects are nausea, dryness in mouth, blurred vision, weakness, and nervousness. Most of these are temporary and usually resolve with time. Contact your doctor straight away if you are at all concerned about any of these side effects. It may also cause dizziness and sleepiness, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine as it can worsen your dizziness.

Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding. You should also tell your doctor if you have any kidney or liver diseases so that your doctor can prescribe a suitable dose for you.

How Topspas Injection works

Topspas Injection is a combination of two medicines: Dicyclomine and Dimethicone. Dicyclomine is an antispasmodic which works by relaxing the muscles in your stomach and gut (intestine). It stops sudden muscle contractions (spasms), thereby relieving abdominal cramps and pain. Dimethicone is an antifoaming medicine which disintegrates gas bubbles and allows easy passage of gas.

Before you start taking Topspas Injection, tell your doctor if you are allergic to this medicine or if you have problems with urination. Also inform your doctor if you have a bowel obstruction or severe constipation, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a serious heart condition or active bleeding. Your doctor should also be informed if you are breastfeeding or have glaucoma (eye disorder causing gradual loss of sight).
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when the stomach acid frequently flows back into the esophagus (the tube which connects your mouth and stomach). This backwash (acid reflux) can irritate the lining of your esophagus. Symptoms include chest pain (heartburn), usually after eating, which might be worse at night and difficulty in swallowing.
Keep this medicine in the container or the pack it came in, tightly closed. Store it according to the instructions mentioned on the pack or label. Dispose of the unused medicine. Make sure it is not consumed by pets, children and other people.
It is advised that you use Topspas Injection only when it is clearly needed. It is known that the medicine passes into breast milk and may have serious side effects on an infant younger than 6 months of age. Do not breastfeed while taking this medicine or else seek your doctor’s advice.
Yes, the use of Topspas Injection can cause dry mouth. If you experience dry mouth, drink plenty of water. Take regular sips during the day and keep some water by your bed at night. You may use lip balm if your lips are also dry.
Yes, Topspas Injection may cause low blood pressure resulting in sudden dizziness when you stand up rapidly. Patients with an irregular heartbeat and congestive heart failure should take special care while taking this medicine.
