How Chloramphenicol + Dexamethasone + Polymyxin B works

Chloramphenicol + Dexamethasone + Polymyxin B is a combination of two antibiotics (Chloramphenicol , Polymyxin B) and a steroid ( Dexamethasone ). The antibiotics work by killing the bacteria or stopping their growth. Together, they treat your infection effectively. The steroid blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the affected area red, swollen and itchy.

  • You have been prescribed Chloramphenicol + Dexamethasone + Polymyxin B for the treatment of bacterial infections of the eye.
  • Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
  • Do not use Chloramphenicol + Dexamethasone + Polymyxin B for more than the prescribed duration as it may cause glaucoma or secondary infection. 
  • Do not touch the tip to any surface, or to your eye, to avoid contamination.
  • Do not wear contact lenses until your infection clears up.
  • Throw away any medicine left at the end of the 5 day course.
