Dacomitinib Uses

Dacomitinib is used in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer.

How Dacomitinib works

Dacomitinib inhibits a protein, human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER), which may cause cancer cells to grow more quickly and spread to other parts of the body. This may help in limiting the spread of cancer.

Expert advice for Dacomitinib

  • Before taking Dacomitinib, make sure you tell your doctor about any other medications that you are taking (including prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins, herbal remedies, etc.).
  • After starting your treatment with Dacomitinib you may be at risk of infection, so try to avoid crowds or people with colds. Report fever or any other signs of infection immediately to your doctor.
  • Drink at least two to three quarts of fluid every day, unless you are instructed otherwise.
  • To reduce nausea, take antinausea medications as prescribed by your doctor, and eat small, frequent meals.
  • To help treat/prevent mouth sores, use a soft toothbrush and rinse your mouth at least 3 times a day with saline water.
  • Eat foods that may help reduce diarrhea and take adequate rest.
