Selexipag is used in the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).

How Selexipag works

Selexipag acts on the blood vessels in lungs in a similar way to the natural substance prostacyclin, helping them to relax and widen. This makes it easier for the heart to pump blood through these blood vessels.

Common side effects of Selexipag

Headache, Diarrhea, Jaw pain, Nausea, Vomiting, Muscle pain, Pain in extremities, Flushing (sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck and trunk)

  • Do not take Selexipag if you are allergic to Selexipag or any of the ingredients in this medicine.
  • Inform your doctor if you are taking medicines for high blood pressure or if you experience dizziness during treatment. Also, let the doctor know if you have severe kidney problems or are undergoing dialysis.
  • Inform your doctor if you are taking gemfibrozil (a medicine used to lower the level of fats [lipids] in the blood) since it may affect how Selexipag works and cause side effects.
  • Selexipag can cause side effects such as headaches and low blood pressure, avoid indulging in activities such as driving or operating machines.
